Taxpayers Pending

Jokic and the Nuggets Future

The Denver Nuggets are expected to be taxpayers from here on out with Nikola Jokic's supermax deal set to kick in, which could result in a tax penalty in the $30 million range.

Jokic signed a five-year, $272 million supermax extension with the Nuggets in 2022, which will keep him under contract through the 2027-28 season. The deal includes a player option for the final year, which could allow Jokic to become a free agent in 2028 if he chooses to exercise it.

The Nuggets have been one of the most successful teams in the NBA in recent years, reaching the Western Conference Finals in 2020 and 2021. However, they have yet to win a championship, and Jokic's supermax deal could put them in a position to do so.

The Nuggets have a number of other talented players on their roster, including Jamal Murray, Michael Porter Jr., and Aaron Gordon. If they can all stay healthy and continue to play at a high level, the Nuggets could be one of the favorites to win the championship in the next few years.
